About PilatesTime NYC
PilatesTime NYC was founded by Dana Tenengauzer, a Classical Pilates instructor certified at Core Pilates NYC. Dana holds a Master of Science from the London School of Economics and a BA from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. After following many different paths throughout her career, she found that working in wellness as a Pilates instructor was the most rewarding. Dana practiced Pilates for over twenty years, first as a client and then as an instructor, before opening PilatesTime NYC.
Dana is also a certified Buff Bones instructor, specializing in preventive care and workouts for people with osteoporosis. Her continuing education includes certifications in pre/postnatal care, back care, anatomy, and special cases. She provides clients with well-balanced sessions that improve flexibility, core strength, and balance.
Her husband, Daniel Tenengauzer, is also a Classical Pilates instructor certified at Core Pilates NYC, holding a Master of Science from the London School of Economics as well. After a 25-year career on Wall Street, Daniel experienced firsthand the importance of work-life balance. He brings that perspective to his teaching, emphasizing the connection between physical wellness and professional performance.
The studio’s philosophy is rooted in progress: “We believe in progress. Our clients experience improvements in strength, flexibility, and balance. Together we can accomplish daily wins.” All instructors hold Comprehensive Classical Pilates certifications.
Classes and Services at PilatesTime NYC
PilatesTime NYC offers five distinct class formats, all rooted in classical Pilates principles. During every session, instructors emphasize the six principles of Pilates: concentration, control, centering, flow, precision, and breath.
Reformer Class
The reformer provides a full-body workout using a platform that moves along a carriage track. Resistance comes from body weight and springs, meaning you face resistance in both directions for every movement. This is the most well-known of the Pilates apparatus and delivers a comprehensive workout.
Tower/Mat Class
The Tower is a vertical unit with various attachments (bars and springs) for a full-body workout. PilatesTime NYC converts the reformer into a tower by connecting mat pieces to create a longer surface. The attachments create resistance to challenge your body in different planes of movement.
Reformer/Tower Class
A combination class splitting time between the reformer and the tower. You spend approximately 25 minutes working on each apparatus, giving you the benefits of both in a single session.
Reformer/JumpBoard Class
A combination of reformer work and cardio using the JumpBoard, a piece of equipment attached to the foot bar. This class works your abs and legs while getting your heart pumping. It is one of the more dynamic and fun offerings at the studio.
Buff Bones: Bone and Joint Health
A specialty class focusing on strength training, bone strengthening, and balance techniques. This class is specifically designed to be safe for people with osteopenia and osteoporosis. It is a medically endorsed, full-body workout led by Dana, who holds Buff Bones certification.

What Makes PilatesTime NYC Unique
Several things distinguish PilatesTime NYC from other studios in Manhattan.
Family-Owned and Operated
PilatesTime NYC is run by Dana and Daniel Tenengauzer, a husband-and-wife team who both hold Comprehensive Classical Pilates certifications. This family dynamic creates a warmth and consistency that is rare in New York’s boutique fitness scene. You are not just another client at a chain studio; you are a member of a small community that genuinely cares about your progress.
Classical Pilates Training
All instructors are classically trained, meaning they follow the original principles and exercise sequences developed by Joseph Pilates. This is not a fusion studio or a trend-chasing concept. The focus is on authentic, time-tested Pilates methodology with proper form, precise cueing, and respect for the tradition.
Two Upper East Side Locations
Having two locations, one in Yorkville (218 E 81st St) and one in Lenox Hill (230 E 78th St), gives members flexibility in scheduling and convenience. Both locations are within walking distance of each other and accessible by the same subway lines.
Buff Bones Specialty
Dana’s Buff Bones certification makes PilatesTime NYC one of the few studios in New York that offers a medically endorsed workout specifically designed for people with osteopenia and osteoporosis. This specialty fills a real gap for the Upper East Side’s mature population.
Virtual Class Option
The virtual Google Meet classes make PilatesTime NYC accessible beyond Manhattan. Whether you are traveling, prefer working out from home, or live outside the city, you can still train with PilatesTime NYC’s instructors at a significantly lower price point ($30 for virtual group vs $46 for in-studio group).
Small and Serene Setting
The studio was intentionally designed to be small and serene. As they explain in their FAQ: “PilatesTime NYC is a family-owned boutique Pilates studio that caters to people who prefer a small and serene setting where they can get individualized attention.” There are no large classes or overcrowded reformer rooms here.
